2. The Education Rule

You generally need a higher education degree or proof of specific expertise relevant to the job.

3. The Contract Rule

You must have a valid employment contract from the recognized Dutch sponsor.

Step-by-Step Application Flow (Employer-Led)

The process is fast because your employer does most of the heavy lifting.

Phase 1: Employer Submission

  • 1. Job Offer & Contract: You sign the contract with your recognized Dutch employer.
  • 2. Employer Applies: Your employer submits the application for your Combined Residence and Work Permit (GVVA) to the IND. They submit the application for both you (the worker) and your family (if they are joining you).
  • 3. Fast-Track: Because the employer is a recognized sponsor, the IND aims to process the application quickly (often within 2 to 4 weeks).

Phase 2: Entry and Collection

  • 4. MVV (Entry Visa) Approval: If you need an entry visa (called an MVV), you will receive a notification that the MVV has been approved.
  • 5. Biometrics Appointment: You must visit the Dutch Embassy or Consulate in your country to collect the MVV sticker in your passport and provide your biometrics (fingerprints and photo).
  • 6. Travel to Netherlands: You use the MVV to travel to the Netherlands.
  • 7. Collect Residence Permit: Once you arrive, you make an appointment to collect your physical Highly Skilled Migrant Residence Permit card from the IND office.

Phase 3: Registration

  • 8. Register: Within a few days of arrival, you must register your address with the local municipality (gemeente) to receive your BSN (Citizen Service Number), which is required for banking, health insurance, and taxes.

Documents You Will Need

  • • Valid Passport: Must be valid for at least six months longer than your stay.
  • • Signed Employment Contract: From the recognized sponsor.
  • • Proof of Qualifications: Your degrees, diplomas, and relevant certificates.
  • • Police Clearance: A certificate of good conduct from your previous country of residence.
  • • Tuberculosis Test: You may be required to undergo a TB test after arrival (depending on your nationality).
