Overseas Scholarship Scheme for Minorities: Eligibility & How to Apply

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Criteria)

To qualify for this life-changing scholarship, applicants must meet the following conditions:

1. Community & Residency

  • Minority Status student must belong to one of these recognized minority communities: Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Parsi, or Jain.

  • Telangana Native student must be a permanent resident of Telangana State. Your school records from 4th to 10th standard will be used to verify this.

2. Academic Requirements

  • Minimum Marks the student must have secured at least 60% marks (or an equivalent grade) in your previous degree.

    • For PG courses, this applies to applicant Undergraduate degree (Engineering, Management, Pure Sciences, Agriculture, Medicine/Nursing, Social Sciences, or Humanities).

    • For PhD courses, this applies to applicant Postgraduate degree.

  • Student must have valid scores for GRE/GMAT and English proficiency tests like TOEFL/IELTS/PTE as required by your chosen university.

3. Age & Family Limits

  • Student maximum age must not exceed 35 years as of July 1st of the application year.

  • Student total family income from all sources must be less than Rs 5 lakhs per annum.

  • This benefit is given to only one child per family as a one-time assistance.

4. Destination & Admission

  • Eligible Countries: Student must have secured admission to an accredited university in one of these 10 countries: USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Germany, New Zealand, Japan, France, or South Korea.

The Document Checklist

Keep scanned copies of these documents ready before you begin your application:

  • Personal ID proof i.e. Aadhaar Card, Valid Passport, Ration Card, and a recent Passport-size photograph.

  • Official Certificates i.e.  Caste Certificate and Income Certificate (both issued through Mee Seva), and a Resident/Nativity Certificate.

  • Academic Records i.e. Birth/SSC Certificate, Transfer Certificate (TC), Bonafide Certificate from your last institute, and all mark sheets.

  • Exam & Admission Proofs i.e. GRE/GMAT score card, TOEFL/IELTS/PTE score card, and student official university admission letter.

  • Financial Documents i.e.  Bank passbook (first page) of a nationalised bank account, Salary certificate of parents/guardians (if employed), and a copy of the latest Income Tax Assessment (if applicable).

How to Apply: Step-by-Step

The application process is entirely online and hosted on the official Telangana ePASS portal.

  1. Visit the Portal: Open the Telangana ePASS website and check the live notification dates.

  2. Register/Login: New users must sign up using their mobile/email, while existing users can log in directly.

  3. Find the Scheme: Click on the ‘Overseas Scholarship Services’ tab and choose the Chief Minister’s Overseas Scholarship Scheme for Minorities and submit the application accordingly.

What Happens Next?

A State Level Screening Committee will review your paperwork and create a merit list. Once selected, you will receive a sanction order. You will get your first fund instalment after uploading your foreign landing permit/I-94, and the second instalment upon submitting your first-semester results.
