New Zealand Immigration News Update

Starting from 17 March 2025, New Zealand’s health requirements for dependent children of temporary visa holders will change.

Under the new rules, children of people on work, student, or military visas may no longer be eligible for student or visitor visas if they have a severe cognitive or developmental disability that requires significant support.

This change is intended to align the health requirements for temporary visas with those already in place for residence visas.

The goal is to provide families with clearer information early on, especially if their child’s needs could affect their chances of gaining residency.

These changes aim to balance welcoming people to New Zealand for work, study, or travel while also managing the demands on the country’s health and education systems. Aligning these rules helps ensure fairness across visa types and supports schools by reducing unexpected resource pressures.
