Phase 2: The Joint Online Application

  • 4. You Start the Application (Enter Finland)
You create an account and fill out the application for a "Residence Permit for an Employed Person" in the Enter Finland online service. You upload all your documents and pay the fee.
  • 5. Employer Adds Details (Enter Finland for Employers)
Once you submit, your employer gets a notification. They must log into their own service (Enter Finland for Employers) to add the agreed terms of employment (salary, hours, role).
  • • Crucial: Your employer needs to complete this step quickly to avoid delays.
  • 6. Book Appointment & Biometrics
Immediately after submitting the application online, you must book an appointment to visit the nearest Finnish Embassy or Consulate (or VFS Global center) in your country.
  • 7. Prove Your Identity
    At the appointment, you will:
    • • Show your original documents (Passport, Contract, etc.).
    • • Give your biometrics (fingerprints and photo).

Phase 3: Review, Approval, and Entry

  • 8. The Two Reviews
    Your application is reviewed by:
    • • TE Office (Employment Office): They decide if the job can be filled by you.
    • • Migri (Immigration Service): They check your background and issue the final decision.
  • 9. Decision is Made
You will receive a notification via the Enter Finland service when a decision is made.
  • 10. Optional D Visa (Fast Entry)
If approved, you can apply for a D Visa (a quick entry visa). This lets you travel to Finland immediately after the approval, and you can collect your Residence Permit Card in Finland.
  • 11. Travel and Residence Card
    • • You travel to Finland.
    • • Your physical Residence Permit Card will be delivered to a collection point in Finland.
Once you have the Residence Permit Card, you can legally start working!
