You usually apply for the RWR Card at the Austrian Embassy or Consulate in your home country.

  • • our employer may also be able to submit the application for you in Austria.
  • • You pay the application fee.

5. Review by Authorities

The application goes to two places:

  • • The Immigration Office reviews your personal documents.
  • • The AMS (Austrian Public Employment Service) checks your job offer, salary, and qualifications.

6. Approval & Visa D

If your application is approved:

  • • The Austrian office sends an approval notice.
  • • You are then invited to apply for a Visa D (Entry Visa) at the Embassy. This visa allows you to travel to Austria legally to pick up your permit.

Phase 3: Arrival in Austria (Final Steps)
7. Travel to Austria

You enter Austria using your Visa D.

8. Register Your Home

You must register your local address in Austria with the local government office within three days of moving in.

You go to the local Austrian Immigration Office (e.g., MA 35 in Vienna) for a final appointment. Here, you will:

  • • Give your fingerprints and photo (biometrics).
